- What is online versus blended learning?

Online learning (or e-learning) is a form of distance education over the internet with no requirement for you to attend in-person classes.
*Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online learning with in-person teaching. Blended learning provides you with the flexibility to learn via electronic and online multimedia as well as in-person interaction for skill performance and assessment.
*The Standard First Aid course on this website is an example of blended learning.
- How do I recertify my Standard First Aid award?

The Ontario Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) specifies that Standard First Aid (SFA) award holders may recertify just once on a SFA recertification course. To renew a SFA certification subsequently, you are required to repeat the full course. Thereafter, you may renew by alternating recertifications and original courses.
If your SFA certification is older than three years, you are required to take the full course (not a recert) again.
Holders of Standard First Aid certificates must recertify only with the original certifying agency. Check your Lifesaving Society qualifications using Find a Member before you attend your Standard First Aid recertification to make sure you meet the requirement.
- How long do I have to complete the computer-based training portion of the Standard First Aid course?

You must complete the computer-based training within one year of purchase. Once you begin the first module, you will have one month to complete the remaining modules.
- After completing the computer-based training, how long do I have to complete the in-person assessment?

You must complete the in-person training assessment within one month of successfully completing the computer-based training.
- How long will I be able to access the computer-based course after I successfully complete it?

You will have access to the online Standard First Aid course until your certification expires (three years).
- What do I bring with me to the in-person portion of my course?

You must bring Proof of Completion of your Lifesaving Society computer-based training, which you will receive upon successful completion of the online portion of the blended learning course.
You will also need a copy of the Canadian First Aid Manual and a pen for the written test. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing.
- Can I take the in-person assessment first?

No. The in-person assessment of the course is based on the knowledge acquired during the computer-based training. Therefore, you must take the computer-based training first.
- How long is my Standard First Aid certification current for?

Standard First Aid certification is current for three years from the date you successfully complete the in-person assessment.
- Who do I contact if I do not receive my permanent card within 90 days?

- Where do I take my in-person assessment?

You can complete the in-person component with any Lifesaving Society affiliate that offers the corresponding in-person assessment course. Visit Find a Course on the Society's website to find a course in your area.
